The two words any water professional or homeowner never wants to hear are, “dry well”. Maybe it’s because as a homeowner you have no control over a well going dry or maybe it’s because it may mean big money to repair or replace it.

What do you do if you turn on the faucet and no water comes out? It can be an alarming scenario, especially if it happens on a weekend or holiday when most plumbers have taken the day off.

A well-running dry is not a common occurrence in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, but it is not unheard of. If you’ve noticed lots of air in the water system, that you are running out of water after heavy usage, like watering the lawn, or your water pressure is very low, your well could be running dry. Homeowners today have a number of options when it comes to replacing a dry well wells, but first, they must determine if the well has actually run dry or if the problem is caused by a mechanical failure.

Homes that draw water from a private well get the benefits of low-cost, fresh and clean water. But with this benefit also comes the responsibility of fixing any problems that arise with the well water system. Occasionally, homeowners will turn on the faucet to find there’s no water coming out, or that the water spits and sputters. While there can be many causes of a no-water emergency, one place to start troubleshooting is the well pump.

Turning on the faucet and seeing water come out is something most of us take for granted, but when it comes to building or purchasing a new well system, adequate water supply is a major consideration.
